The Frankfurt Book Fair - the world's largest gathering of the book trade - opened its doors to the public on Friday in the western German city.

However, for Saturday all the tickets have sold out, the organizers said.

"To ensure a pleasant and safe fair experience," the fair organizers had for the first time limited the number of tickets available for the general public.

Tickets for the general public were still available for Sunday, they said, but it was not disclosed how many tickets have been issued for the last day of the fair.

After the end of the trade visitor days, the Frankfurt Book Fair reported a successful interim result: According to the organizers, 114,000 guests from 131 countries attended the first three days of the fair, an increase of 9% compared to the previous year.

A total of 4,300 exhibitors were presenting their books, products and services until the final day on Sunday, an increase of 7.5% compared to 2023.

This is the 76th Frankfurt Book Fair since the end of World War II. More than 1,000 authors and speakers are scheduled to appear at 650 events on 15 stages over the course of the fair.
