Victor Boniface and Robert Andrich made up for earlier blunders when they lifted Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-1 comeback victory over in-form Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Andrich netted a 25th-minute equalizer after earlier conceding a penalty league top scorer Omar Marmoush converted for Frankfurt's lead. Boniface failed to convert from the spot early on but then headed the winner in the 72nd.
"We are very happy today. We were very focussed. A missed penalty can happen and I then conceded one but we weren't deterred. I scored a nice goal and we managed to turn the match around," Andrich told Sky TV.
Leverkusen got a first win after two draws and rose into fourth past Frankfurt, whose unbeaten run ended after five games.
RB Leipzig are three points ahead of Leverkusen and top for at least a few hours thanks to a clinical 2-0 in Mainz from Xavi Simons and Willi Orban. Freiburg are second courtesy of a 3-1 success over Augsburg.
Bayern Munich can return to the top on goal difference if they beat last season's runners-up VfB Stuttgart in Saturday's late game.
Leverkusen had a big chance to take an early lead when Junior Dina Ebimbe fouled Amine Adli. But Boniface's penalty was so poorly executed that Frankfurt keeper Kevin Trapp, back from an injury lay-off, could easily hold on to the ball.
Frankfurt did better when they got a spot kick of their own seven minutes later, also after a long review, when Andrich made contact with Marmoush.
Marmoush drilled the ball into the bottom left corner for his ninth season goal past Finland's Lukas Hradecky, who became the first non-German goalkeeper to play 300 Bundesliga matches.
Andrich made amends when he scored the 1-1 equalizer into the far corner to complete a slick attacking move.
Andrich was denied by the right post after the break before Boniface headed the winner after Trapp had fluffed an attempted clearance off Florian Wirtz' cross.
Huge Ekitike almost levelled in stoppage time but failed to control a header in front of an empty net under pressure from Jonathan Tah, after Hradecky's clearance had hit Tah.
Leipzig were never seriously troubled in Mainz. Xavi Simons opened the scoring in the 20th after beating three opponets, and Willi Orban poked the second after goalkeeper Robin Zentner had failed to hold on to Lois Openda's shot.
Freiburg scored three times late in the first half to beat Augsburg. Vincenzo Grifo drew first blood in the 34th, set up Philipp Lienhart's header three minutes later, and Christian Günter's long-range drive also went in in the 45th. Phillip Tietz got the consolation goal.
Elsewhere, new Germany striker Tim Kleindienst scored a brace for Borussia Mönchengladbach in a 3-2 victory against his former club Heidenheim. Hoffenheim ended a run of five games without victory by beating winless bottom club Bochum 3-1.
Borussia Dortmund defeated St Pauli Hamburg 2-1 on Friday. The Sunday games are Holstein Kiel v Union Berlin and Wolfsburg v Werder Bremen.
