Initial reports say mayor among dead in Israeli attack in Lebanon

Several people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a village in the western Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, the state-run Lebanese news agency NNA reported on Saturday.

Among the dead was reportedly a mayor, the report stated.

The Israeli military initially did not comment on the incident.

The target of the attack, according to the NNA report, was a residential building in the village of Baaloul.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that four people were killed and 13 others were injured, while NNA reported five fatalities.

The mayor who was killed was said to be from a nearby area.

If it is confirmed that the mayor is among the deceased, it would be the second mayor in Lebanon killed within a few days.

Only on Wednesday, the mayor of the city of Nabatiyeh was killed in an Israeli airstrike.

Airstrikes were also reported from other parts of the country.
