Bundesliga bottom club Bochum on Sunday parted ways with coach Peter Zeidler after just eight matches, and sporting director Marc Lettau also has to go.

Zeidler, 62, arrived in summer but has not managed a victory in his eight games. They have lost six of their seven Bunndesliga matches and drawn the other, and gone out in the German Cup.

Zeidler is the first coach who has to go in the top flight season. His last match was Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Hoffenheim.

"There is a lack of conviction that VfL can achieve the goal of staying in the league with the current set-up," a club statement said.

"Despite many discussions and endeavours in recent weeks, we have not succeeded in achieving significant improvements in sporting terms or in the league table."

A successor was not named, but former Schalke coach Andre Breitenreiter is reportedly a candidate.

The new coach faces a tough start with Bochum's next opponents being leaders Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt, champions Bayer Leverkusen and last season's runners-up VfB Stuttgart.

Bochum had avoided relegation last season in a play-off where they beat Fortuna Dusseldorf on penalties.
