Donald Trump 'fine' after being whisked off stage as gunshots heard
Former US president Donald Trump is "fine" after he was whisked off stage by Secret Service agents after gunshots were heard during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, his campaign said. "President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow," Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement. Trump had only just begun his speech in the town of Butler when the incident occurred. TV footage showed panic breaking out in the front ranks of the rally after a series of loud bangs. Hope among Iran's filmmakers after moderate president wins election
Following the election of moderate President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran's filmmakers are hoping for an artistic future without censorship. "We had a meeting with the president, discussed the censorship problems of recent years and really shook our hearts out to him about them," film director Jahangir Kosari said on Saturday. After the meeting, he and his colleagues were confident that the Iranian film industry would "breathe again" with Pezeshkian and find a censorship-free path, Kosari wrote on the website Parsine. However, Kosari still has to be patient with his hopes for better times. His latest film, "I am Forough," about the Iranian poet Forough...
Far-right AfD aims to achieve more than 40% in German regional vote
The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has set a target of 40% or more of the vote for the elections to the regional state parliament in Saxony on September 1. "It is possible that we will govern alone in Saxony," AfD General Secretary Jan Zwerg said at the election campaign launch in the capital of Saxony, Dresden. From now on, his party will be going on the hunt, he said. In the European elections, the AfD became the strongest party in Saxony with 31.8%. Opinion polls for the state election currently show a neck-and-neck race with the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) - with a slight lead for the AfD. Top candidate Jörg Urban spoke of a tailwind for the state election. "Here in the east, here in Saxony, we can make a breakthrough," he told his supporters. His party no longer wants to be in opposition, but wants to govern, he said. "We don't want a piece of the cake, we want the bakery," Urban said. The Saxon AfD state association is categorized by Saxony's domestic intelligence agency as a confirmed far-right extremist movement. The party is fighting this legally.

Netanyahu: Death of Hamas military chief 'not absolutely certain'
Israel is not yet sure whether Mohammed Deif, the military chief of the Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, was actually killed in an airstrike. "There is still no absolute certainty," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a press conference in Tel Aviv. Hours earlier, the Israeli military bombed a fenced-off object in the humanitarian zone between Khan Younis and al-Mawasi, which Israel claimed served as a base for Hamas terrorists. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, 90 people were killed in the attack and a further 300 were injured. The army had extremely reliable intelligence information that Deif and Salama were in the base at the time of the attack, a senior military representative said in an online briefing for journalists.
