Manchester City's Rodri pulled the strings in midfield as La Roja claimed a record fourth continental title with a 2-1 triumph over England. "This is probably the best day of my career. We are European champions, as difficult as that is. We have become Europe's most successful national team," Rodri said. "Previous generations showed us the way. In sport, as in life, when you leave it all out there, you are rewarded." Spain won all seven matches at the tournament...

England captain Kane: 'It's an opportunity missed'
England captain Harry Kane has lamented a second lost Euro final, 2-1 against Spain, as a missed opportunity as his personal run without any silverware continued. "It's hard to put into words how we're all feeling right now. Tough game. We did well to get back into the game and struggled to build on that. To concede late on is really tough to take," he told ITV. "We've been coming from behind all tournament, we've got it in the locker. We didn't take the next step and win it. "In the first half, we struggled. We couldn't keep the ball. Second half was...

Spain was also represented in the top scorer's award which Dani Olmo on three shared with five other players: England captain Harry Kane, Cody Gakpo of the Netherlands, Germany's Jamal Musiala, Ivan Schranz of Slovakia and Georgia's Georges Mikautadze.

Spain complete glorious Euros with 2-1 win over England for the title
Spain lived up to their top billing as they defeated England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday to claim a record fourth continental title and extend England's 58-year big trophy drought by at least another two years. Substitute Mikel Oyarzabal slid into Marc Cucurella's low cross to fire the winner after their 47th-minute opener from Nico Williams was cancelled out by English sub Cole Palmer in the 73rd. Under the eyes of Spain King Felipe VI in Berlin's Olympic Stadium, Spain became the first team to win all seven matches at one Euros as they moved one ahead of Germany with a fourth Euro title, the previous ones coming in 1964, 2008 and 2012. Luis de la Fuente's team scored a finals record 15 goals in their run to the title that included victories over title holders Italy, 2018 and 2022 World Cup semi-finalists Croatia, hosts Germany and pre-tournament favourites France, the 2018 World Cup winners and 2022 runners-up. England showed plenty of resilience as they were the first team to come from behind in all three previous knock-out matches, but fell just short as in 2021 when they lost the Wembley final on penalties against the Azzurri.
Zverev and Schröder part of German Olympic flag bearer shortlist
Germany has nominated three men and three women from which their flag bearers for the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics will be picked, with tennis player Alexander Zverev among several gold medallists from past Games. Zverev, who won gold in 2021, and Dennis Schröder, captain of the basketball team that won a first-ever World Cup title for Germany said they would love the honour. The third man to chose from is Christian Weitz, who has a shooting gold from 2016 and set to compete in his fifth Games. On the women's side, 2016 football gold medallist Alexandra Popp was selected alongside twice 2021 dressage Olympic champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Anna-Maria Wagner, who won two judo bronze medals three years ago in Tokyo. The flag bearers will be announced on July 25, the day before the opening ceremony. The Paris Olympics will run until August 11.
