How to make the perfect Philly cheesesteak at home
During our holiday in New York last year, we visited the popular outdoor food market Smorgasburg Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Despite it being late October, we could sit in the shade at nearly 30 degrees Celsius, enjoying a view over the East River towards Manhattan’s gigantic skyline. The view was breathtaking, almost surreal, like a photo wallpaper. There, I had a fantastic Philly cheesesteak that can be easily recreated at home with just a few ingredients. It was a real treat. Recreating it at home, the only compromise I had to make was with the cheese, as they grilled a large cheese wheel and...
Report: Real Madrid plan superlative Mbappé presentation
Kylian Mbappé's presentation at Real Madrid is set to be a big show event featuring fireworks, live music and a stage catwalk similar to that at a Taylor Swift concert, sports daily AS reported on Thursday. AS said that the presentation at Bernabeu stadium will take place on July 16, even if Mbappé and his French team are eliminated from Euro 2024 before the July 14 final. France play Portugal in the semi-finals on Friday. "It will be the most impressive presentation ever made for a footballer," AS quoted Real officials as saying. The report said that 80,000 fans are expected to attend the presentation, wearing the number 9 shirt the forward is to have during his first season, as the number 10 he has for France and PSG is currently with Luka Modric. The presentation with the music and fireworks will surpass that of Cristiano Ronaldo from 2009 during Real's second Galacticos era. Mbappé, 25, arrives at LaLiga and Champions League winners Real on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain and reportedly receives a huge signing on fee. He fulfilled a childhood dream by signing a five-year contract.

Neuer's perfect quarter-final record a good omen for Germany?
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be a key figure in Germany's Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Spain, and the hosts will see it as a good omen that Neuer has never lost a last-eight match at a big event. Friday's match in Stuttgart will be the fifth quarter-final for the now 38-year-old from Bayern Munich who recorded his 50th clean sheet from 123 caps in a 2-0 win over Dennmark in the last 16 match. Neuer's form had been questioned ahead of the Euros but he has been the reliable backbone again, conceding just twice in four tournament. Germany will hope that he can...

China's Maxus takes on VW's Transporter with new electric van
China's automotive industry is picking up even more speed – not just in everyday electric cars, but also in the commercial vans. While everyone is watching BYD, Nio, and others, brands like Maxus are making strides with battery-powered vans for business owners and delivery workers. Now, the subsidiary of Chinese manufacturer SAIC is launching its third van for the Western market. According to the manufacturer, it fills the gap between the eDeliver 3 and the eDeliver 9. The new model, called the eDeliver 7, is available as a panel van with up to 6.7 cubic metres of cargo space and in two lengths, approximately 5.00 or 5.40 metres. It competes directly with bestsellers like the VW Transporter, which isn't available as an electric vehicle yet. Maxus, however, is offering the third model in its range exclusively as an electric vehicle, starting at €54,720 or £44,995 in Europe. At launch, it has 150 kW/204 hp of power on the front axle, with an all-wheel drive option to follow later, according to the manufacturer. Buyers can also choose between a 77 or 88 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 370 kilometres.
IOC dismisses Paris Games cancellation rumours
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has dismissed speculation about a cancellation or postponement of the upcoming Paris Games due to the political situation in France, saying it was part of a disinformation campaign. Reports had suggested that IOC president Thomas Bach was concerned after France's far-right National Rally, led by Marine Le Pen, topped the first round of voting for a new parliament. The second round of voting is set for Sunday. Magazine Le Point had suggested that Bach had given a mid-July deadline whether the Games would go ahead as planned July 26-August 11, but the IOC was quick to dismiss...

Still want younger looks after a facelift? More anti-ageing options
Question: I had a facelift approximately six months ago and I love my results. I still feel, however, that I don’t look as youthful as I could. Can you give me some other options for enhancing my facelift? Dr. Carlos Wolf, partner in Miami Plastic Surgery: Having a facelift and feeling satisfied with the results is a significant achievement. But if you still feel you don’t look as young as you should, there are several complementary approaches to consider. First, consider non-surgical treatments like Botox and fillers. Botox can smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the eyes and forehead. Fillers...

Where to keep your fridge outdoors during a summer garden party
Garden party season has arrived - and if you're taking your guests outdoors for dinners, parties and just about any sunny afternoon at your place, then you may be considering if there's a better way to keep your drinks cool. One way is to stash your drinks in a second fridge in your cellar or on your terrace, say if you are staying home to watch European Football Championship, Copa América or Olympics events with friends. But if you are using an older fridge, one downside is that it may have been decommissioned for normal operation and could potentially guzzle a lot...
Austrian parliament approves flood defence project on the Rhine
Austria and Switzerland aim to invest €2.1 billion ($2.25 billion) to improve flood defences on the Rhine River. The Austrian parliament unanimously approved a state treaty to increase flood protection measures along a stretch of the border river before it flows into Lake Constance. The agreement on the project was signed between Austria and Switzerland in May. The Swiss parliament still has to approve the pact. The two countries will share the costs equally. The goal is to increase the river's flow capacity. At the moment up to 3,100 cubic metres of water per second can safely flow down the Alpine Rhine during periods of heavy rainfall. The plan is to increase it to 4,300 cubic metres per second. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027 at the earliest, with completion 20 years later. Over a length of 26 kilometres, more space is to be created for the water, which currently flows in a canal. The river is also to be restored to a more natural state. The aim is to better protect around 300,000 people in the lower Rhine Valley from flooding.

The two companies will each hold a 50% stake in the joint venture, which will develop a main battle tank and an infantry...
Turkey summons German ambassador over criticism of footballer Demiral
Turkey has summoned the German ambassador following harsh criticism of Turkish national footballer Merih Demiral's goal celebration at the European Championships. Demiral is under investigation by the ruling body UEFA over a controversial gesture after scoring in the Euro 2024 last-16 match against Austria. He made the wolf-salute with his fingers, a gesture associated with Turkish far-right movement Grey Wolves, which is politically represented there via the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). The gesture was condemned by German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, politicians and rights groups, who called for a UEFA investigation, while Turkey meanwhile hit out at the criticism. UEFA said on Wednesday it...
White House rejects report Biden is mulling dropping out of race
The White House has rejected a New York Times report that President Joe Biden is considering dropping out of the election following a disastrous debate performance against Republican rival Donald Trump last week. "That claim is absolutely false. If the New York Times had provided us with more than seven minutes to comment we would have told them so," White House spokesman Andrew Bates said on Wednesday. The newspaper said that Biden has spoken to a "key ally" about this. The unnamed ally told the New York Times that the 81-year-old president knew he might not be able to save his candidacy if...
Zelensky wants to know how Trump can end the war 'within 24 hours'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he would like clarity from US presidential hopeful Donald Trump on how he intends to end Russia's war in Ukraine in just 24 hours. "If Trump knows how to end this war, he should tell us today," Zelensky said on Wednesday in an interview for Bloomberg Television which lasted almost an hour. "If there are risks to Ukrainian independence, if we lose statehood – we want to be ready for this, we want to know," said Zelensky, according to Bloomberg's English translation. The former US president and Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential election has repeatedly claimed that he could end the war in Ukraine "within 24 hours," without ever revealing any details of this claim. In the Bloomberg interview Zelensky declared his willingness to meet Trump and his team and listen to their proposals. "We want to understand whether in November we will have the powerful support of the US, or will be all alone."
