Capitol Heights Man Sentenced to 53 Months for $1.5 Million Pandemic Fraud and Firearm Offense
A Capitol Heights man has been handed a 53-month sentence for his involvement in a fraud scheme and illegal firearm possession. Stephawn Watson, 28, known as "O Dawg," received the sentence on July 18th after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a pandemic-related unemployment insurance fraud that swindled more than $1.5 million in Maryland and California. In addition to his prison term, U.S. District Judge Brendan A. Hurson ordered Watson to forfeit over $90,000 and to pay restitution of $2,094,319, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland.

The Charles County State’s Attorney office announced that on July 18 a Charles County jury, after a 9-day trial and approximately two hours of deliberation, convicted Andre Taylor, 63, of the 1979 first-degree murder and first-degree rape of Vickie Lynn Belk. Commenting on the case, State’s Attorney Anthony “Tony” Covington (D) said, “I can’t give enough credit to the assistant state’s attorneys that put in ridiculously long hours and effort to achieve justice in this case. 3rd Maryland man arrested in Columbia murder-for-hire plot: DOJ
Authorities arrested a third Maryland man in connection with a murder-for-hire plot, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for Maryland. Tyrik "Son-Son" Braxton, 28, joins previously convicted Daquante Thomas, 22, and Jourdain "JBlacc" Larose, 29, who were already sentenced in the plot. Braxton is sentenced to 25 years in federal prison in the death of Juan Ross on Oct. 23, 2020, the DOJ said.

Hagerstown Police have arrested one of two suspects in last Thursday's fatal shooting near downtown Hagerstown, according to court documents. Mid-Atlantic c-store retailer Royal Farms has announced its latest expansion to the heart of Greenbelt, Md. The chain will open its new location in the area on Aug. 19.
