Places you don't want to miss while exploring San Diego

I fall in love with San Diego on my first visit. I did not expect this trip to San Diego would be this amazing. In this blog post, I am going to talk about the places I have visited in short two days, or you can say on a weekend trip.

La Jolla Cove
‘La Jolla’ refers to ‘the jewel’ and in reality, this is truly a jewel place. A small coastal inlet surrounded by picturesque sandstone bluffs- yes this is San Diego’s one of the most popular and photographed places. If you are visiting La Jolla, do not forget to visit the beach, which is amazing especially during the sunset. Seagulls, sea lions, cormorants, etc. can be seen along with the buffs above the ocean. Several other adjacent beaches are small and less crowded. You can visit those beaches too. La Jolla Cove is a popular and happening area to spend time with friends and family. If you walk down to the beach during low tide, you may be able to see the caves which are amazing to see. Please remember to keep a distance from the wild animals on the beach and in the cave.

One must recommend thing to see in San Diego is the sunset from the Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. Those rugged rough cliffs, the beach below the park, and the ocean- everything about this place are peaceful. The best time to visit the beaches here is at the low tide when you will be able to see the tidal pools along with the beach. Also, do not forget to visit the sea cave here. Look for the ‘Luscomb Point’ between Hill Street and Monaco Street and you will be amazed to see the cave formation here. But you have to visit it during the low tide.

Point Loma and Cabrillo National Monument
The main attraction point in Point Loma is the Cabrillo National Monument. At the Southernmost point of Point Loma, you will find Cabrillo National Monument, which honors the landing of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo at San Diego Bay. There are a few beaches that are accessible from this National Monument and those are famous for sightseeing and tide pools. From this Monument, you will be able to enjoy the view of the naval base in Point Loma, San Diego Downtown, Coronado, and the wide view of the Pacific Ocean. On a clear day, you may be able to see the mountains of Tijuana, Mexico. You can also drive down Cabrillo Road in order to see the tide pools in Point Loma, especially in winter.

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
Located within the city limit of San Diego, Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is one of the wildest areas on the Southern California coast. Travelers and visitors from all over the world come to visit this place for its spectacular overlooks and peaceful trails. This 1750-acre reserve has eight miles of trails among which some of the popular ones are: Guy Fleming trail (0.7-mile loop trail, easy), Razor Point trail (1.4-mile round trip), Beach trail (0.75 miles to the beach), etc. While visiting this natural reserve, please be respectful of the flora and fauna.

Coronado Island
Coronado Island is a land directly off San Diego. A massive naval base, a small town with beautiful beaches, shops, restaurants- make Coronado Island perfect as a tourist spot. You can access this island via the Coronado Bridge and find the main touristy area where all the main shops and restaurants are located on Orange Ave. Beaches here are serene and beautiful and perfect for a gateway.

Balboa Park
Balboa Park is one of the most happening places in San Diego that includes 17 museums, gardens, shops, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Movie theatre, art museum, eatery, music, botanical garden, theater- what is not in there! You will have the most amazing time there roaming around, shopping, eating, and exploring. I loved the street performances here in Balboa Park.

Old Town
One thing I love most about San Diego is the Old Town. This is the place where the first European settlers settled in California. Old town San Diego is a mix of history and entertainment. There are a lot of reconstructed and restored old buildings turned into museums, restaurants, shops, and a lot of things you can see, do and enjoy. The entire place has an old town vibe that attracts me the most. The entrance is free, and you can visit the museums for free. At Old Town State Historic Park, every Saturday and Wednesday, staff and volunteers display the activities that were taken place in the 1800s such as blacksmithing, carpentry, soap making, quilting, spinning wool, and different games. I visited this place during ‘Día de Muertos’ and the whole old town was in the festive vibe. It was bright, colorful and I loved the food there. A lot of people were wearing costumes, painted their faces and everybody was happy- I loved the happy faces there.
