NILES, Ohio — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers took the series against the State College Spikes with a final score of 7-2 in the concluding game of a four-game set. SPIKES RALLY IN THE NINTH TOPPLES SCRAPPERS
NILES, Ohio — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell to the State College Spikes 6-2, spearheaded by a five-run ninth-inning rally by State College. A pair of lefties started on the mound for both squads, as Grant Umberger got the nod for Mahoning Valley. Meanwhile, the Spikes countered with Jeremy Neff. Both pitchers tossed scoreless innings in the first and second. After Umberger posted another zero in the third, the Scrappers struck first in the bottom half of the inning with a Drey Dirksen RBI single to plate Blake McCrae, putting Mahoning Valley up 1-0.

Homeless arsonist stopped by State College public works employee
State College, Pa. — A public works employee who put a fire out helped identify a homeless man accused of arson in State College. Benjamin Randolph Hamby, 41, of State College allegedly set a large garbage pile on fire near the intersection of East Calder Way and Sowers Street. The July 15 blaze was put out by the employee just before 5 a.m. after he spotted Hamby setting the fire, according to State College Police Officer Victoria Stewart. ...
