North Smithfield Professional Firefighters Local 3984 congratulated Capt. Brian Gartland of B Platoon on his retirement this week. Gartland has served the town of North Smithfield for many decades, working his way through the ranks and retiring as a captain at Station 1. He also served as the department’s fire marshal for many years, and also held the position of fire training officer, where he oversaw the onboarding and training of probationary firefighters after their state academy graduation.
Rhode Island man facing list of charges after shooting himself during altercation at bar
Colonel Michael J. Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department, has announced that a local man is facing multiple charges after a shooting at a local bar. On Saturday, at just after 11:15 p.m., Cranston uniformed officers were working a security detail at 39 West, located at 39 Phenix Avenue in Cranston when they heard a gunshot. The officers then observed two men fighting. Officers immediately separated both men and observed a handgun in the hand of one of the subjects identified as 28-year-old Michael Mancini of Cranston. Officers took Mancini to the ground as he refused to release his grip on the gun and violently resisted arrest. Officers were eventually able to subdue Mancini and seized the loaded handgun that contained a fifteen-round magazine.
Ashland man dies after motorcycle collides with car at intersection in Holliston
HOLLISTON — An Ashland man died Sunday after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car, authorities said. Holliston police identified the man as Andrew Palumbo, 62. According to a press release from police, Palumbo was riding the motorcycle at about 7:48 p.m. when it collided with a car near the intersection of Prentice and Mill streets.

UConn Health is now offering the drug lecanemab to patients with mild signs of dementia. In clinical trials it was shown to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s. The memory assessment team at the UConn Center on Aging consists of multidisciplinary experts who monitor and guide patients through the treatment process. The drug may not be a cure for Alzheimer’s but for patients like Eric Jackson, it offers the chance to remain independent longer.
