AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A Dumas High School senior is one of four students in the U.S. to receive a full-tuition scholarship to Tulsa Welding School, after displaying his exceptional skills at “Weld-to-Win.”

According to a Tulsa Welding School press release, Cristian Ramirez from DHS will be awarded with a scholarship out of 400 students who competed across four competitions.

TWS said students were tested on a variety of skills, during the competition including stick welding and blueprint reading. The competition lasted a total of four months in four different cities on TWS’ campuses.

“The skilled trades industry is facing a growing need for talented welders,” said Mary Kelly, President and CEO of StrataTech Education Group, parent company of TWS. “Fortunately, the students who participated in this year’s competitions showcased incredible talent at their level and we’re so excited to welcome them to Tulsa Welding School, where they can hone their craft before entering a demanding and thriving workforce.”

Officials added that partial tuition scholarships were also awarded to the runner up and third place winners. Each participating student received a $500 tuition allowance to any Tulsa Welding School campus or The Refrigeration School, Inc.

According to officials, Tulsa Welding School is located across four U.S. campuses, and hosts the series of “Weld-to-Win” competitions every year, aiming to encourage high school seniors interested in careers as skilled trade professionals.
