No. 8: A public hearing and vote for a liquor license for Cham Pang Lanes and Ghost Donkey at 910-920 Harney Street, a new bowling alley and tequila bar. No. 13: A public hearing and vote on re-zoning to allow for a convenience store at 7059 Dodge Street. This is concerning the Mega Saver going in to that address.
Nebraska Football Countdown to Kickoff: No. 36 DB Blake Closman
The countdown to the start of Nebraska’s 2024 season is down to 36 days and in the player spotlight is Cornhuskers defensive back Blake Closman. The 5-foot-9, 195-pound cornerback is originally out of Elkhorn, Nebraska and was a standout safety and wide receiver. He eventually chose to walk on with the Huskers. After not appearing in any games during his first two years with the program, Crosman played in two games as a redshirt sophomore in 2023 against both Northern Illinois and Michigan. Closman will have an opportunity to see the field again in 2024 but likely won’t have any large roll, instead playing in select situations. City water main being replaced, next to Beatrice Municipal Auditorium
BEATRICE – Work is beginning to replace a critical water main along Ella Street in Beatrice. The project extends from the 100 block to the 400 block of Ella Street. Water department officials say there will be driving lane and parking closures along that part of the street….and a parking lot next to the west side of the Beatrice Municipal Auditorium will be affected, periodically.

Nebraska police have charged a 17-year-old teen with two felonies this week after he allegedly caused a train derailment while filming an “insane” video for YouTube. The teenager, whose identity remains undisclosed due to his minor status, uploaded a five-minute video of the incident in Bennet on April 21, dubbing it the “MOST INSANE VIDEO I’VE EVER TAKEN!”

Very little change in the forecast Saturday with temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s in central and eastern Nebraska. Mid to upper 90s in western Nebraska are likely once again as well.

Deputies accuse two men of multiple thefts in northeast Nebraska
MADISON COUNTY, Neb. (KOLN) - The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men on July 19 on suspicion of multiple thefts. On May 31, a man reported a generator stolen from his business in Newman Grove. According to the sheriff’s office, the generator was recovered after another man traded his plasma cutter to 25-year-old Alexander Robak for the generator. It was later discovered that the generator had been stolen, and the second man returned the generator to its owner.

Portion Of 84th Street To Close July 29
LINCOLN–(KFOR July 27) Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) this week today announced that 84th Street from “O” to Van Dorn streets will be closed beginning Monday, July 29 as a part of a Lincoln on the Move street improvement project. The intersection of 84th and “A” streets will also be closed to through traffic on “A” Street. Access to homes and businesses in the area will be maintained. The intersection work is scheduled to be completed by August 9.
