DUNCANSVILLE, Pa. ( WTAJ ) — A couple from Pennsylvania that attended the Trump Rally in Butler on Saturday is reflecting on their experience.

Sandra Butler-Devers and her husband, Ronald, of Duncansville, Pa., went to the rally to volunteer and show their support for the Republican Presidential Candidate and former President.

“Just looking at them now, makes me realize how bad it actually could have been. You know there could have been a lot more casualties,” said Sandra, Recording Secretary for the Blair County Republican Committee .

After they volunteered, the Devers were sitting center stage in the third row. When they first heard the bangs and commotion, Sandra thought it was firecrackers, but Ronald said he knew that wasn’t the case.

“I could tell that it was gunshots. There’s no doubt about it. No firecrackers. I could tell the difference between a bullet and firecracker,” he said.

Devers said shortly after, she realized that Trump ‘had been hit and went down’. And in a sea of chaos, their first thoughts were not about their own safety.

Nexstar’s WTAJ asked, “What was going through your head?”

“Trump. My concern was more on him, than me getting out of there because we couldn’t go anywhere. People were starting to fall in front of, you know, go down on the ground in front of us. And I knew with my knee I couldn’t get down on the ground. And Ron and I just stayed in our seats,” the Devers responded.

It was an emotional time for the family, as they claim it could’ve been worse. The couple helped other people around and worked to get out safely.

“And I mourn for those families just like it was somebody I knew really well,” Sandra said.

This isn’t the first rally that the Devers have attended. For Sandra, this is her seventh. For Ronald, his third; but the first time he’s volunteered. They plan to attend more Trump rallies in the future, and they’re hoping that the violence ends here.

“I don’t care if it’s Democrat or Republican. These people are out doing what they want to do to get elected into something they want to get elected into. There’s no reason to shoot somebody to take somebody out. That’s not what it’s all about. That’s not getting a solution to any problem,” Ronald said.
