The Greater Dundalk Chamber of Commerce has awarded its annual Teacher of the Year awards to exceptional teachers in the area.
These teachers have gone above and beyond this year to help their students succeed. They spend countless hours inside and outside the classroom helping the school community, serving as as an inspiration to their students and their fellow educators.
Congratulations to these outstanding teachers, and thanks to all teachers for all of the hard work that you do!
Elementary School Teacher of the Year:
Eva Khory, Berkshire Elementary
Principal Cheryl Brooks says Eva Khory is an extremely dedicated ESOL teacher. She persistently advocates for her students regarding their academic and social emotional and behavioral well-being. Over the years, her students have made tremendous growth on assessments. She is always had high levels of energy and is always looking for ways to put a smile on someone’s face.
Middle School Teacher of the Year:
Samuel Hurd, Dundalk Middle School
Principal Debra Turnock says that Mr. Hurd is a phenomenal ESOL teacher who finds a way to engage every single student. He holds all students accountable to reach their highest potential. As the school’s Green Club advisor, he teaches students the importance of green energy. Through this work, Dundalk Middle School has been recertified as a Maryland Green School.
High School Teacher of the Year:
Kennis Rolle, Sparrows Point High School
Principal Emily Castor says Mr. Rolle is an inspirational and talented instructor of the arts. He believes that education is more than just the core studies and that arts, especially music is a pathway to life long learning. You can even find him directing the Sparrows Point High School Steel Drum Band during parades and festivals throughout the year.
Special Education Teacher of the Year:
Pamela Richardson, Battle Monument School
Principal Kyle Martin says Ms. Richardson demonstrates a sincere belief in the ability of her students. No matter the challenges they face, she looks for a way to teach them. This year she has stepped up to lead a revolution in teaching reading for students with disabilities. She has melded multiple programs to find what way works for each student. Due to her efforts multiple students have begun to demonstrate early reading skills that they never did before.
