A WALMART shopper has fumed after a new checkout policy forced them to wait in a long line rather than use self-checkout.

Customers have started to take note of a new policy that has some shoppers raging.

Some Walmart stores have started to implement a 15-item or less policy at self-checkout.

The controversial new policy was put in place to stop shoplifting.

Other methods have been put in place at the retailer such as receipt checks and locked shelves which also frustrate shoppers.

A Walmart shopper in Dundalk, Maryland — about 10 miles southeast of Baltimore — fumed about the new rule.

"Dundalk Walmart is so f***ing shi*** bro," the angry shopper wrote on X.

"I have 23 items so I can’t use self-checkout. So to them, it will be fast for me to wait in line behind 8 people who have 70 items in their carts.

"That makes sooo much sense. Why not just make self-checkout maybe 35 items or less?"

Walmart responded to their tweet vowing to help.

"We'd like to hear more about your experience, Mandy. Do you mind sending us a DM with those details?" they wrote.

    'I LEFT MY BUGGY'

This was not the first shopper to post about their experience at the retailer on social media.

Another shopper raged about the policy and left the store.

"Went to Walmart today and every self-checkout register had 15 items or less," a shopper wrote on Facebook.

"I asked and was told that is what the company wants. I left my buggy there and went to Food Lion.

"I spend $500.00 plus per month at Walmart, but not anymore."

    Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed up checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at various locations were made available only for Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed during specific hours, and more cashiers were offered instead.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting fueled the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would stop the fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, that test run has been phased out.

At Target, items are being limited at self-checkout.

Last fall, the brand surveyed new express self-checkout lanes across 200 stores with 10 items or less for more convenience.

As of March 2024, this policy has been expanded across 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers have also spotted their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

A third shopper was even more upset about the policy.

“I’m so f**king annoyed, this why I don’t come in the grocery store," they admitted on X.

"Cause when Walmart starts 15 items or less on self-checkout these f**king lines [are] ridiculous."

Walmart also responded to the shopper's post, wanting to help.

"We'd like to look into this. Please send us a DM, so we can assist you," the store wrote.

The U.S. Sun has contacted Walmart for comment.
