If you need a new pair of work boots, another bird feeder, shampoo for your horse or a kayak or riding mower, then Tractor Supply Company in Dundas might be your one-stop place to shop.

The new store, located at 600 Schilling Dr., opened in the spring and celebrated its Northfield Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting June 1.

Since the pet friendly, big box store opened its doors, rural and urban customers alike have been streaming in, said General Manager Randy Witte.

“Last Saturday, we had a line for our indoor pet wash,” said Witte. People and their pets love the convenience of the large, elevated tanks, especially for big dogs who don’t fit in a kitchen sink. “With two wash stations, shampoo and towels, people can take all the time they need. Recently, someone brought his sheep in for a wash.”

Witte said the wide variety of farm, ranch, home and hobby supplies attracts a range of customers that include farmers, horse owners, ranchers, hobby farmers, gardeners, pet enthusiasts and suburban and rural homeowners, as well as contractors and tradesmen.

According to the company’s website, the more than 85-year-old company is the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the U.S., ranking 291 on the Fortune 500. As of March 30, 2024, this company operates 2,233 Tractor Supply stores in 49 states.

Witte said, so far, the summer items that have consistently been selling well, including outdoor merchandise like grills, riding mowers, patio supplies and lawn and garden items. A seasonal section located in the middle of the store includes all sorts of mosquito traps, barbeque gear and patio furniture and decor.

That section, which already sports some deer season merchandise, will transition over to autumn offerings later this month.

For now, customers can buy colorful Yeti coolers, tumblers and drinkware, yard games, plastic pools, deck canopies, garden seeds and plants and Scott’s fertilizer spreaders.

Witte said his shelves are always stocked with car and boat batteries, truck boxes, ATV and trailer tires, fencing, fans, chain saws, power tools, booster cables, ladders, jacks, gas cans, tarps, oil and auto chemicals, gun safes, winches, paints and stains, dog kennels and generators.

“We hear from new customers and regulars all the time about how impressed they are with our wide range of supplies,” he said.

Their product range includes about everything except tractors.

Tractor Supply Company stocks supplies for those engaged in hands on chores, from repairing wells to building fences, welding gates together, constructing feed bins, taking care of livestock and pets, repairing tractors and trucks and building trailers for hauling.

Each week the store runs “Best Values of the Week” specials, such as a two-seater, gas powered Go Kart for $1,200, or a chicken cottage hutch coop for $150 or a utility trailer for $2,500.

Witte said he tried to hire a sales staff who were already familiar with the merchandise so that they could better able help their customers find a specific item. “Many of our staff live on farms and know our products from their own experience using them,” he said.

“We’ve definitely got something for everyone,” he said.

And, just in case a customer didn’t want to walk out empty handed, there’s a huge selection of candy available near the check out area.
