Final statistics for Monroe County Region softball teams

DUNDEE – Dundee was an offensive machine this season in softball.

When the final stats were all added up, the Vikings finished with the top hitter and had the Monroe County Region’s leader in runs scored, doubles, runs batted in and stolen bases.

"The girls take pride in hitting and baserunning," Moody said. "We work a lot on that in practice. We like to put pressure on the other teams' defense.

“The girls always ask questions to Coach (Bubba) Bezeau or myself when they think they are doing things wrong and then would want to take extra swings. We work at driving the ball in gaps and not lifting the ball. We want line drives. If we get a home run, that's great, but we want gaps."

Kennedy Irwin finished as the Region’s top hitter at .598, narrowly missing becoming part of an exclusive list of Region batters to hit the .600 mark.

She also led the Region in runs scored with 70 and steals with 52.

She tied Airport’s Olivia Talley for the most hits with 64. She was just three off the Region record for steals.

Irwin’s Viking teammate Kiernan Brown led Region hitters with 18 doubles.

Gibraltar Carlson’s Addison Skinner had the most triples with seven and Leila Daniels of Milan slugged 14 home runs, one of the highest totals in Region history.

Bedford’s Aubrey Hensley set the Region mark for home runs in a season last year with 23. Her season got off to a late start due to a basketball injury, but she still batted .549 with seven triples and seven home runs.

Whiteford’s Unity Nelson led the Region in ERA (0.76) and strikeouts. She closed her career with 1,156 strikeouts, second most in Region history.

She had 292 strikeouts this season and tied Airport’s RaeAnn Drummond for the most wins with 20.
