PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — It was a day of celebration at a pair of Mid-Illini Conference schools on Tuesday.

Dunlap honored Nick Mueller, the first state wrestling champ in school history with a rally in the school gym. The senior won the class 2A state title at 165 pounds on Saturday in Champaign.

“I worked hard for it and I hope it shows that anyone can do it,” said Muller.

Dunlap has only had a wrestling program for five years.

“It doesn’t matter what school you are at or what wrestling room you have or whatever,” said Mueller of winning a title at school with a relatively new program. “There are no words for it. It’s super awesome that everyone is supporting me.”

At Morton, five seniors made their college commitments official at a signing ceremony. Luke Beenders (Missouri S & T), G.B. Kruzick (College of DuPage), and Conner Wagner ( Illinois Wesleyan) signed to play football in college.

A pair of Morton baseball players also signed their letters: Nolan Reiman with Millikin University and Grant hackney with Eureka College.
