MEMPHIS, Tenn.--A multi-agency investigation has resulted in federal charges for fifteen Tennesseans accused of taking part in an organized drug trafficking scheme. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), FBI, USPS, Memphis Police Department, Bartlett Police Department, and Shelby County Sheriff's Office all took part in the case. According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), a federal grand jury has charged 15 people accused of distributing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and marijuana throughout the Memphis area.
Deaf prisoners in TN lacked interpreters, videophones in violation of ADA, judge rules
A federal judge this week ruled that Tennessee prisons violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and an anti-discrimination law by failing to provide sign language interpreters and videophones to a group of deaf prisoners who sued the Tennessee Department of Correction. Under the ADA, deaf prisoners have the right to accommodations that provide communication that is as effective as communication for prisoners without disabilities. Van Buren Hosting 31st Homecoming Saturday
Van Buren County will host its 31st Mountain Homecoming event this Saturday. Chairwoman Tiffany Crain said the event will be packed with lots of food, raffles, games, and music, headlined by the popular local band Shattered. Crain said for a time they stopped the homecoming during COVID-19 and brought it back last year.
Deputies searching for Georgia couple they say stole items from woman’s gravesite
Deputies are searching for a North Georgia couple who have been accused of stealing items off a woman’s grave. Randall Ledford, from Catoosa County, lost his daughter Courtney in a car wreck in February. Courtney was buried at the Lakewood Memory Gardens South and Randall decorated it with solar lights, flowers, and pictures to honor his daughter. Ledford told WTVC-TV that he went to watch the 4th of July fireworks from Courtney’s grave when he noticed some things were missing.
