Smart Heart Act takes effect in TN July 1st
According to the American Heart Association, the number one cause of death of student-athletes is sudden cardiac arrest. Now due to new legislation that Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed and passed unanimously, school staff are going to have to learn how to use an AED. Having AEDs in schools can double the chances of saving someone’s life. Kingsport City Schools has already gone through mandatory training. All staff take AED training and do an annual online training in the summers and at the beginning of school. Training only takes around 3 hours for CPR and AED. The Smart Heart Act will go into effect on July 1st, 2024.
Tennessee to receive nearly $31.7M in new defense outlay
(The Center Square) — Tennessee could receive nearly $31.7 million to fund construction projects in the new defense appropriation that recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives. The biggest outlays for the Volunteer State would be for Arnold Air Force Base near Tullahoma. The base is the home of the Arnold Engineering Complex, which has 58 wind tunnels and other test facilities.
