DUNLOW, WV (WOWK) – The Dunlow EMS unit of the Dunlow Volunteer Fire Department will be closing.

Wayne County Commission Administrator Jim Boggs says the commission was told of the intended closure at their commission meeting on Monday. He says they are looking into keeping the station open as a firefighting unit.

According to Boggs, it is possible that the Dunlow VFD could stay open by dissolving their current charter and becoming a sub-station of another volunteer fire department in the area.

The Dunlow fire chief and EMS director were both at the commission meeting.

Earlier this year, the Dunlow VFD was forced to close twice. Once for two weeks from the end of March to mid-April due to a lack of insurance , and then again from May 30 to June 7 for a lapse in workers’ comp coverage .
