DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Resources for those less fortunate came together at the Robert E. Dougherty High-Rise in Dunmore.

The event was sponsored by the Lackawanna County Housing Authority.

Free clothing and meals were provided by Saint Francis of Assisi, and residents of the high-rise were told about programs in the community to help them lead better lives.

Some residents might not know that these programs exist and Tuesday’s event was designed to help them get connected.

This event directly benefits the 50 residents of the high-rise, and if goes well, can grow to other low-income high-rises in Blakely.

“This kind of stuff does help, and at least you know that even if you help one person, or two people, or one family. You’ve accomplished what you wanted to do,” said Lackawanna County Housing Authority Administrative Clerk Joe D’Arienzo.

The Dunmore Community Center on Monroe Avenue offers recreation, arts and crafts, and community fellowship.

Organizers say educating residents about these resources helps get them out of isolation.
