Dunwoody’s Sage Woodfire Tavern, one of the staples of the restaurant scene at Park Place Shopping Center – part of the city’s designated entertainment district – appears to have shuttered permanently.

Google lists the Dunwoody location as “ permanently closed ” and the link to its website no longer works . Attempts to reach the restaurant by phone , listed on its Facebook page, end in an immediate hang-up.

A Rough Draft reporter stopped by the Ashford Dunwoody Road location after receiving a tip about the closure. A “Sorry we missed you” package delivery notice was taped to the front door.

In 2018, the franchise’s Windy Hill and Alpharetta locations closed after owners declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to a report on the food and dining website Eater. A location in East Cobb also closed in 2017.

In 2019, the Buckhead location of Sage Woodfire Tavern closed a year after opening. Its closure followed a buildout that cost upwards of $2 million. It had moved into the space formerly occupied by Morton’s Steakhouse on Peachtree Road.

The Buckhead location, at 11,500 square feet, was a jumbo version of the other restaurants, with 300 seats and a 28-seat bar and a second floor for private parties and meetings.

5Church, an upscale steak and seafood restaurant, moved into the space in 2022.

It’s another hit for the shopping center that has seen some significant departures. This includes the closing of the popular Alon’s Bakery next door in early 2023. Owner Alon Balshan cited the size of the space and the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic for the lack of traffic at the upscale breakfast, lunch, and gourmet bakery-cafe.

Sage Woodfire Tavern at the Perimeter was in the news in February when police arrested two people in connection with the Feb. 11 shootin g of a security guard in the restaurant’s parking lot.

The suspects, Bernard Anthony Jones and Jailyn Reese, allegedly tried to leave the restaurant without paying for their dinner. When a security guard attempted to detain them, Jones allegedly shot the man three times, hitting him in the hand and shoulder.

EDENS is the owner of Park Place, located across the street from Perimeter Mall on Ashford Dunwoody Road. In 2022, the Dunwoody City Council created the Perimeter Center Entertainment District that includes Perimeter Mall, Ashford Lane, Park Place, High Street, and Campus 244.

Park Place, encompassing 88,280 square feet of retail space, has as its longtime tenants McKendrick’s Steakhouse, Eclipse Di Luna, Café Intermezzo, Sola Salons, and Brass Tap Brew Pub.

Rough Draft reached out to EDENS for comment on Sage Woodfire Tavern in Dunwoody. Check back for updates.
