The Greenevers Town Board of Commissioners held their monthly town hall meeting on Monday, July 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Greenevers Community Center. Several topics were discussed during the meeting.

New Commissioner AppointmentDuring the meeting the board appointed Joseph Bivens as a new board member replacing Commissioner Mary Alice James who stepped down in June. He will fulfill her term that ends in 2025.

Water and SewerMcDavid Associates has been wrapping up the asset inventory and assessment for Greenevers Water and Sewer systems. The town was previously declared a distressed town due to the state of the water and sewer system, so an assets and inventory (AIA) study began in the spring. During the project they cleaned, filmed, and smoke tested the sewer lines.

“They’re not completely done with the project. They are now finalizing and reviewing their report. Once they finalize their report they will present it to the town board and to the Division of Water Infrastructure. The study was done to have a better understanding of our system so that we will have the needed information in the future when trying to apply for water and sewer funding,” explained Town Manager Emma Brinson.

Planning Board UpdatesAlso during the meeting members of the planning board gave updates on a possible home expansion and new site plan application. The owner of an existing manufactured home park is interested in increasing the number of lots in their park and requested permission from the town. The town board decided to review existing zoning regulations to determine the requirements that the owner will need to address before giving them an approval for expansion. A decision will be made in an upcoming meeting.

The planning board also announced that they are in the process of developing a site plan application which will outline the information that an applicant will need to have when submitting a zoning request. They are currently in the process of doing research on other town’s site plans. No other action was taken at the meeting.

2024 CDBG-NR ProjectThe town has been working on getting CDBG-NR Project funds over the past several months. With the funds they will be able to reconstruct some of the homes in town. The board began reviewing the following compliance plans, but no actions were taken on them at the meeting because the board wanted more time to review and ask questions. They requested that the grant administrator be present at the next meeting to address their questions and concerns.

“We’re looking to do some repairs to several low-mod homes here in Greenevers. We were awarded $800,000 for the project but we have to submit those documents to the Department of Commerce Rural Economic Development Division to actually receive the funds. We already accepted our grant administrator. Right now we’re just doing our preliminary work first before we start working on the homes. We won’t start working on the homes until probably next year,” explained Brinson.
