Gov. Shapiro to campaign in Pa. with Biden, president says
WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden says he and Gov. Josh Shapiro will travel around Pennsylvania this fall on behalf of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Biden, who was born in Scranton, told CBS’ “Sunday Morning” in an interview that the two men would campaign for Harris in the nation’s most populous battleground state. Pennsylvania is all but a must-win state for the Democratic ticket this fall as most paths to the 270 electoral votes needed for victory involve winning the Keystone State.
Students Attend Jesuit Leadership Conference
Six University of Scranton students participated in the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference held at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, this summer. The national conference, held at a different Jesuit University each summer, entails group discussions, a day of service and various workshops focused on furthering the development of students’ leadership from a Jesuit perspective.

Lake Ariel babysitter pleads guilty to third-degree murder in death of infant
Michael Alexander Crowl, a 26-year-old Lake Ariel resident, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder after an infant was shaken, leading to the infant's death. The plea was made Thursday in the Wayne County Court of Common Pleas, where he is due back for sentencing Oct. 10. The announcement by Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Hands-on learning: Carbondale Area hosts Summer STEAM Camp
Carbondale Area Junior/Senior High School recently hosted a Summer STEAM Camp. During the three-week camp, students were introduced to new concepts and learning strategies. They utilized drones, Ozobots and 3D printers, and engaged in designing with CAD software and coding languages. Each STEM challenge integrated real-world components, allowing students to apply principles of science, technology, engineering and math to their designs.

2023 Record: 3-8 The Chargers head into this season with some inexperience at QB after losing Darryl Bennet to graduation. Freshman Cole Becchetti and Sophomore Caedon Voglino will battle it out for the spot under center, or even possibly split time. Coach Jeff Arthur says “Looking to finish above 500, could win 6 or 7 games if we can overcome inexperience at quarterback”. The good news is there is size and experience on the O-Line that is returning this year along with Senior FB Ethen Brewen. Senior Daniel Gonzalez is returning to the secondary and Brewen is also back at LB, so there are some leaders for the defense.
