It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
IceHogs Community Fund Awards $20,000 Grant to Rockford Area Arts Council
Grant supports RAAC’s Summer SPARK! programs for youth. The Rockford IceHogs Community Fund has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Rockford Area Arts Council (RAAC) to support SPARK!, the RAAC’s summer art program that provides an apprenticeship program to youths who demonstrate an interest in the arts. SPARK! provides youth with the unique opportunity to work closely with local artists in a variety of mediums. The primary focus of SPARK! is community building and positive social connection through the arts. SPARK! projects focus on the development of public art for the experience of the youth and the enjoyment of the Rockford Region.
