A flood advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. July 22 for a portion of central North Carolina that includes the counties of Durham, Franklin, Granville, Vance and Wake.

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected, according to the National Weather Service.

Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas is likely, NWS reported.

Shortly before 4 p.m. July 22, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area.

Between 1 and 1.5 inches of
rain had fallen as of 4 p.m.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
    flooding.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” NWS said in a press release. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
