BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Family, friends and the mayor’s office came together Friday, Aug. 23 to remember the life of Simone Pillette. Pillette was killed in a car crash on Sunday, Aug. 18. She served as the office manager for Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. During the vigil, many shared heartfelt speeches and memories of Pillette and what it was like to know her.
UL pays $5 million for student hotels; incoming freshmen begin moving in
There’s a consumer controversy in Lafayette caused by a shortage of housing for a record-setting incoming UL freshman class. The fall semester starts on Monday, August 26, so incoming freshmen, assisted by their parents, are moving into local hotels.
