DUXBURY − An oceanfront residential Goose Point compound owned by a former Citicorp CEO is on the market for $40 million.

The Long Point Lane estate sits on 25 acres along Cape Cod Bay and has more than 1,000 feet of water frontage and a private pier.

The home, which the LandVest/Christie's listing says "provides privacy, panoramic ocean views and quiet luxury," is being sold by John S. Reed and his wife, Cindy.

John Reed, 85, is a former Citicorp CEO and was chairman of the New York Stock Exchange. An MIT graduate, he is a former chairman of the school's board of trustees.

The estate includes a sandy beach and seven outbuildings, including a 17th-century cottage with two bedrooms.

The 14,000-square-foot main house was built in 1995 and is at the end of a long, winding driveway. The home has 16 rooms, including six en suite bedrooms; nine bathrooms; and seven wood-burning fireplaces.

The home features a gourmet kitchen, living areas that are both intimate and larger scale for entertaining, a private office with wet bar, a library, and a private overlook with 180-degree views of the ocean and grounds.

Perennial gardens, outdoor decks and a heated pool are also spread across the property.

There's also an orchard with peach, apple and cherry trees; an 18-by-13-foot greenhouse; and a berry pavilion, where strawberries, blueberries and blackberries are grown.

A dozen beehives on the property help with pollination.

    The outbuildings include:

    • The Dock House, which has a gourmet kitchen, a wood-burning stone fireplace and large deck overlooking the private pier.
    • The Beach House, which serves as a guest retreat with three bedrooms and private beach access.
    • The Barn, which features a caretaker's apartment, a three-bay equipment garage with a workshop on the lower level and a gourmet canning kitchen.
    • The Alexander Standish House, a 2,000-square-foot antique house with a wood-burning fireplace and views of the property's gardens.
    • The covered Pavilion, a venue for outdoor gatherings.
    • The Adirondack-style Boat House off Goose Point Pond.

"This sprawling compound has been carefully assembled and improved over time and is truly a one-of-a-kind legacy property," the listing by Christie's International Real Estate says.

The listing agent is Joanna Rizzo Dresser.

“This is an incredible coastal living experience only 35 miles from Boston,“ she told The Patriot Ledger in an email.

If the property fetches its asking price, it would be one of the most expensive homes ever sold in Massachusetts.

Last summer, a three-house estate in Nantucket sold for $38.1 million, at the time the most expensive single-family property ever sold in Massachusetts.

In September, waterfront Nantucket residential property was sold for $42 million to Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.
