At the Paris Olympics, scandal abounds after young Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso is kicked out of the Athletes Village over alleged inappropriate behavior. She was barred from the Olympic environment after officials expressed concerns about the 20-year-old athlete's choice of clothes, social interactions with other competitors and behavior considered distracting to teammates.

It allegedly claimed that Alonso, a blonde bombshell with a social media following of nearly half a million, was seen bucking the official rules and wearing her personal clothes instead of team clothes. Additionally, her socializing with other athletes and engaging in activities outside the norm for an athlete fuelled the controversy that prompted her early departure from the competition.

In a rare move, the Paraguayan Olympic Committee kicked Alonso out of the Athletes Village and into a hotel in Paris's center. This decision, which usually means athletes are allowed to stay until the end of the Games for the spirited closing ceremony and lively post-event celebrations, underscores the gravity of the situation that sent her packing. She was later revealed to be causing problems in Team Paraguay, prompting officials to take action to preserve the Olympic environment.

Unfortunately, Alonso, who missed out on advancing to the semi finals in the 100 m butterfly just before her unanticipated exit has dediced to retire from the sport, stating,

“It's official now,” she captioned a July 27 post. “I'm retiring from swimming, thank you all so much for the support! Sorry Paraguay. All that remains is to thank you!”.

Her abrupt departure has shaken the competitive swimming world and the Olympic community as fans and officials alike mourn the scandal that has marred the Paris Olympics. The former swimmer returned to the United States to study at a Texas university and has spawned controversy and unanswered questions.

She has gone on to claim that it is just a rumor that she was kicked out of the Olympics, stating on her Instagram page,

“I just wanted to clarify that I was never removed or expelled from anywhere, stop spreading false information,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories page days later, in her native Spanish language. “I don't want to give any statement, but neither am I going to let lies affect me.”
