The Secret to Perfectly Candied Walnuts

Achieving that perfect balance of sweetness and crunch comes from beating the egg whites and ensuring the walnuts are fully coated in the spiced sugar mixture. The egg white helps the sugar stick to the walnuts while baking, forming that delightful crispy coating. Using a blend of warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves takes this classic snack to the next level. After baking, you’ll have golden-brown candied walnuts that are perfect for snacking, gifting, or adding a sweet crunch to your favorite dishes.

Candied walnuts are quick to prepare and store well for up to a week in an airtight container. Whether you’re making them as a last-minute party snack or as a topping for your holiday dishes, this recipe is sure to become a favorite in your kitchen.

A Brief History of Candied Nuts

    Storage and Reheating Tips

Store the candied walnuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

For longer storage, you can freeze the candied walnuts in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. Let them thaw at room temperature before enjoying.

If you want to re-crisp the walnuts, bake them in a preheated 300°F oven for about 5-10 minutes, checking them frequently to prevent burning.

    Cooking Tips

For an extra layer of flavor, try adding a dash of vanilla extract to the egg white mixture before coating the walnuts.

If you prefer a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the spice mix for a sweet and spicy combo.

For added variety, swap out the walnuts for pecans, almonds, or a mix of your favorite nuts.

Make sure to spread the walnuts in a single layer on the baking sheet to ensure even cooking and avoid clumping.

Boy, I love candied nuts, every time I've tried making them, the candied globs together and they just aren't thinly coated. Not sure I'm cooking it to long before spreading it onto the nuts or what, but I'll try this recipe and hope it works..
