Authorities investigating a deadly crash in Eagan over the weekend said one driver ran a red light before the collision, but the other driver – carrying two passengers who were both killed – is the one who fled the scene.

The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 55 and Lexington Avenue around 3:05 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 41-year-old Eagan woman was driving a Lincoln MKX westbound on Highway 55 when she ran the red light at the intersection.

The Lincoln collided with the passenger side of a Volkswagen Jetta, which had been traveling westbound on Highway 55 and turning to go southbound on Lexington Avenue when the t-bone crash happened.

The Volkswagen driver fled on the foot and has not been arrested as of 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to the patrol.

The driver of the Lincoln was not injured, but both passengers in the abandoned Volkswagen have since died of their injuries, according to the crash report.

Authorities have not identified the crash victims, but confirmed one victim was a 22-year-old man.

"This is an on-going investigation and information will be released when available," the crash report reads.

One of the two victims is expected to be identified shortly.
