Jet fuel gets into Eagle County the same way gasoline does: by truck. Wayne McFarland thinks his company can shorten that trip for some of that fuel. McFarland is the CEO of SynTech Holdings, a company that can turn municipal waste into aviation fuel and other products. McFarland held a work session Tuesday with the Eagle County Board of Commissioners to talk about putting a small plant at the Eagle County landfill to produce aviation fuel, and then trucking that fuel to the Eagle County Regional Airport.
Alaska Airlines will be flying into the Eagle County Regional Airport next winter
The Eagle County Regional Airport will have a new carrier for the coming winter. Alaska Airlines announced Tuesday that from Dec. 20 through March 16 it will fly three times a week into Eagle County from San Diego and Seattle. The airline will use Embraer 175 aircraft for the flights. Those are 76-passenger “regional” jets.

Frances Johnnette Anderson Phillips was born May 18th, 1935, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Johnnette was the oldest of three brothers and two sisters. After Johnnette graduated from high school, she attended Ayers College of Business, where she received her degree. During that same year, she met her future husband, Jack Phillips. Johnnette was 19 when she first met Jack, and Jack was a 22-year-old airman stationed near Johnnette’s hometown.

Colorado investigates strange sores on fish in Eagle County waterways
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is investigating an outbreak of sores on rainbow trout in Eagle County waterways, with bacteria and stress the primary suspects. The rainbow trout have been reported by anglers and guiding companies in recent days, and CPW has engaged with those parties to collect samples of the affected fish, which were sent to the state’s Aquatic Animal Health Lab in Brush.
Drug task force seizes over 18 pounds of cocaine mixed with fentanyl on I-70 near Gypsum
The Gore Range Narcotic Interdiction Team seized over 18 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl in a traffic stop on Wednesday, June 19, on Interstate 70 near Gypsum. The multi-jurisdictional drug task force — which is comprised of local law enforcement including the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and Vail Police Department — contacted the vehicle around 1 p.m., according to a news release. Once the vehicle was pulled over, a uniformed deputy made contact with the vehicle’s occupants. After the deputy observed indicators of further criminal activity, both the driver and passenger consented to a vehicle search.
Dotsero will get better broadband this year; the rest of rural Eagle County is a tougher issue
Dotsero will have better internet service this year. Prospects are less certain for the rest of rural Eagle County. On Monday, Eagle County Director of Innovation and Technology Scott Lingle provided an update on rural broadband service to the Eagle County Board of Commissioners. Lingle’s presentation started with some good news about Dotsero.
