Eagle County remains involved in legal effort to derail Uinta oil train plan as U.S. Supreme Court takes up appeal
Despite numerous setbacks to a proposal to ship crude oil by rail along the Colorado River, the plan isn’t dead yet, and Eagle County’s government is still opposed. The U.S. Supreme Court on June 24 agreed to hear a challenge to a Dec. 7, 2023 decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia that rejected a motion to rehear challenges to the Uinta Basin Railway. That proposal was for an 88-mile line linking wells in Utah’s Uinta Basin to the Union Pacific Railroad’s main line. That line parallels the Colorado River across the Western Slope, including through Glenwood Canyon and across much of Eagle County.

Howard: Affordable homeownership is a community builder
I think it’s easy to articulate what homeownership means to a person and how it changes a family’s trajectory. There’s clear evidence that living in a safe, affordable home creates concentric circles of positive outcomes: financial security, education, physical and behavioral health. What is becoming more evident...
Letter: Legacy, vision, common sense and the West End project
I arrived here 20 years ago and have seen Eagle County make decisions without a vision of their long-term impact. Our once idyllic valley increasingly resembles the chaotic, cluttered mess of many East Coast towns, or worse, Summit County. Past decision-makers approved projects without considering their cumulative effect on our county’s traffic, wildlife, environment, and overall character.
