    Crivitz, Lena baseball squads collect opening day victories

    Crivitz 10, Marion 5CRIVITZ — Strong pitching kept Marion off-balance as the Crivitz baseball team opened the 2024 season with a 10-5 non-conference win over the Mustangs on Thursday.

    Jackson Schramm and Pierce Polomis combined to hurl seven innings of two-hit ball while JJ Brand drove in a trio of runs as part of a 10-hit barrage for the Wolverines.

    Crivitz (1-0) broke matters open with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the first to seize an 8-2 advantage.

    Marion (0-1) cut the Wolverines’ lead in half entering the bottom of the sixth before Crivitz plated a pair of insurance runs to make it a 10-4 game.

    Braxton Genskow scored on an RBI-single from Logan Zietlow, but Polomis retired Ryan Malueg and Jay Brei to end the game and tally his first save of the year.

    Colten Tarmann and Jaxon Kroll both collected RBI-base knocks for the Wolverines.

    Schramm was the winning pitcher after one hit and two unearned runs across four innings of work, striking out eight while walking four.

    Malueg was tagged with the loss on the mound after allowing eight hits, eight runs (six earned) and four walks through four innings.

    Due upCrivitz: The Wolverines open Marinette and Oconto Conference play on Tuesday at Gillett/Suring, with first pitch set for 4:30 p.m.

    Lena 10, Green Bay NEW Lutheran 0LENA — It may have been opening day, but Tyler Shallow pitched as if he were in midseason form as the Lena baseball team blanked Green Bay NEW Lutheran 10-0 in non-conference action on Thursday.

    Shallow hurled five complete innings of one-hit ball, a one-out single to Sam Hillman in the top of the fourth inning, while retiring the first 10 batters that he faced.

    Shallow gave up a pair of walks in the fourth but was otherwise perfect, racking up nine strikeouts in the process.

    Lena (1-0) outhit the Blazers (0-1) 7-1 behind multi-knock games from Shallow and Anthony Seefeldt.

    Griffin Steffel was the losing pitcher after giving up four runs in just one and one-third inning of work.
