    Maroon girls take fourth, boys ninth at U.P. golf finals

    MARQUETTE — The Escanaba and Marquette golf teams emerged victorious from Wednesday’s U.P. Finals from Heritage Golf Course.

    Marquette cruised to the boys’ team U.P. title with a combined score of 300, putting the Sentinels more than 20 strokes ahead of Houghton, who placed second at 321.

    Meanwhile, Escanaba claimed the girls’ team U.P. crown with a 399, well ahead of runner-up Kingsford (421), who edged Neagunee (422) by one stroke to take second place.

    Lexi Marineau and Mackenzie Doyle led the Menominee girls with matching team-low scores of 102, putting the Maroon duo in a tie for ninth overall in the individual standings.

    The Maroon girls finished fourth overall as a team after shooting a combined 433.

    Ava Chouinard netted herself a top-20 finish after shooting 112, good for 18th place.

    Anna Axtell wrapped up the Menominee girls’ scorecard with a 29th-place score of 117.

    Esky’s Kamrie Scott walked away with the girls’ individual U.P. title, topping the field with a low-round score of 83. Kingsford’s Grace Maki and Houghton’s Abigail Dart tied for second place with 91s.

    Back on the boys’ side, Jonah Slawinski set the tone for Menominee with a team-low score of 79, putting him ninth overall.

    The Maroon boys finished ninth overall as a team with a combined 347.

    Keegan Wickstrom backed up Slawinski with a score of 86, good for 28th overall.

    Nathan Schultz (90) finished 39th overall, while Connor Coduti’s score of 92 and Jacob Schultz’s 95 were good for 48th and 54th place, respectively.

    Marquette’s Kaleb Chipelewski clipped teammate Boden Moore by one stroke to win the boys’ individual U.P. title. Chipelewski shot a low-round score of 72, while Moore settled for second at 73.

    Cage Osterman of Baraga was third after turning in a scorecard of 74.
