    Brandt captures first place at Menominee XC invite

    MENOMINEE — Blue skies and warm air greeted runners from four high schools from across the Upper Peninsula at the Menominee cross country invitational on Saturday.

    The race, which was held at Water Tower Park, featured runners from Menominee, Kingsford, North Central and Norway.

    Menominee’s Winley Brandt defended her home turf with a first-place time of 22:06.8, clipping Kingsford’s Maria Murvich (22:26.1) by 20 seconds.

    Norway’s Lauren Adams took home third-place honors with a time of 24:32.1.

    Lilliana Revall gave the Lady Maroons another top-10 finish after finishing the course in 27Z:02.5, good for ninth overall.

    Kaelyn Doubek ran an 11-place time of 27:42.3, while Eden Allen was 13th overall in 31:58.5.

    On the boys’ side, Henry Zuehls set the pace for the Maroon boys with a fourth-place time of 20:01.2. Brayden Bourion (200:11.9) and Blake Bourion (20:42.2) finished behind Zuehls in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

    Eli Ecker and Kingsford’s Quinten Smith crossed the finish line within an eyelash of each other, with Smith taking eighth overall in 22:19.7, while Ecker was ninth at 22:19.9.

    Andrew Miller (23:18.6) and Ethan Howarth (23:19.7) finished 11-12 to round out the afternoon for the Menominee boys.

    North Central’s Ben Knauf cruised to first place in the boys’ race with a time of 18:47.3, while fellow Jet Wes Knauf was second at 19:14.5.

    Kingsford’s Reed DeGroot rounded out the top-five with a third-place time of 19:44.5.

    Menominee won both the boys and girls junior high races.

    Bradley Klann took first place on the boys’ side with a time of 12:46.2, while Daly Butler captured victory in the girls’ race with a first-place time of 14:03.1,
