36ers waiting on possible Legion playoff berth
The Boothbay 36ers completed their regular season schedule July 16 with a 9-6 loss to the first-place Franklin Flyers at Sherman Field. The 36ers finished with a 5-8-1 record in American Legion play and now wait to learn about their post-season eligibility. Boothbay currently holds the final Maine Southern Zone playoff spot, but a Dirigo Sturgeon victory later this week over Messalonskee could result in a one-game playoff. “We hold that final spot, but a Dirigo win could force a play-in. It’s a bit confusing, but we are waiting to find out,” said 36ers’ Manager Adam Harkins.
EVENTS: Food, Fun, and Friends meet at the community cookout in Palermo
The fun begins at 4 p.m., on Saturday, August 3, at 26 Veterans Way, in Palermo, as people gather for a celebration of summer in the Palermo Community Garden behind the gray mobile home. There is plenty of parking. The scent of fruitwood barbeque emanates from the Grape Arbor, where the tents and tables welcome guests with cooling beverages and home-cooked pulled pork, turkey, cornbread, cowboy beans, tempting desserts, and more. Tickets are only $10 for adults and $5 for youth 6-12. Little kids are free. Grace O’Brien will have tickets available at the gate. This will happen rain or shine, and takeouts are available. At 6 p.m., the firepit will be lit and folks can gather around it to hear Anthony Semenovich play his guitar and sing.

Construction on Bridge Closes Road in Perham
PERHAM, Maine (WAGM) - Construction work on The Salom Stream Bridge in Perham has closed the road to drivers. According to the MaineDOT, the current structure was built in 1967 and is past its useful life. Soderberg Construction of Caribou began working on the bridge this week to replace it with a concrete box culvert that is 24 feet wide The contract amount is approximately $864,000.
