UMPI reshapes Advancement Office for future growth
PRESQUE ISLE — To best support the institution’s strategic and fundraising goals and build deeper connections with its growing network of alumni, the University of Maine at Presque Isle is welcoming two new hires to the newly-restructured Office of University Advancement. Craig Cormier joins the University as the new executive director of University Advancement and Candace Elliott steps into a new role as assistant director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Fund.
Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Drug Trafficking in Maine
A 27-year-old man was sentenced to five years for drug trafficking and possession of meth in Maine. Man Sentenced to 60 Months for Drug Trafficking and Possession. Angel Luis Lozano from Lowell, Massachusetts will serve 60 months in federal prison. He will also have five years of supervised release. He entered a guilty plea on February 15, 2024.
58-Year-Old Woman Died after Single-Vehicle Crash in Maine
A 58-year-old woman died Monday after a crash on Starks Street in Anson. Valerie Hoyt of Industry was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle accident, said police. Hoyt veered off the roadway and crashed on the side of the road, according to the Morning Sentinel. Ongoing Crash Investigation.
Boothbay selectmen make town appointments
Boothbay Selectmen made 10 municipal appointments July 10 retroactive from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027. Selectmen Chuck Cunningham, Russ Pinkham and Julie Roberts voted unanimously on the following appointments: Martin Page, James A. Tonon and David Steinmetz, board of appeals; Lucian C. Laurie Jr. and Mike Thompson, planning board; Cunningham and Jody Lewis, Boothbay Region Refuse Disposal District trustees; Larry Knapp, port committee; and Craig E. Barter, shellfish committee.
