EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A suspect who allegedly pulled a gun during a road rage incident last week was located early Monday morning, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office .

The suspect was identified as Ariel Rangel Perez, 22, of Eagle Mountain. The sheriff’s office said a resident offered a tip to officials, which helped locate Rangel Perez and his car just before 6 a.m. Monday.

On June 27, deputies in Eagle Mountain responded to a reported road rage incident, where one driver allegedly aimed a handgun at another driver around 6:30 a.m.

The sheriff’s office said the victim was able to provide the license plate number of the suspect, but officials were unable to locate the registered owner of the car at the address provided on the car’s registration.

On Monday, a deputy was watching traffic on Pony Express Parkway, according to a press release. He noticed a vehicle matching the description and license plate given by the road rage victim and another resident.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop and spoke to Rangel Perez, whose driver’s license was suspended. The sheriff’s office also said Rangel Perez had no insurance for his car and the vehicle’s registration was revoked. Officials said the registration had been expired since November 2023.

“He admitted that he’d been involved in the road rage incident and admitted he brandished the handgun during that incident,” the release said.

According to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, Rangel Perez was given a citation for the traffic violations on Monday, and his car was impounded for the registration and insurance violations.

The deputy who stopped Rangel Perez on Monday also submitted the case to the prosecutor’s office for the suspect for Rangel Perez to “be charged with one class A misdemeanor count of threatening with a dangerous weapon during a fight,” the sheriff’s office said.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
