EARLEVILLE — Mount Harmon Plantation in Earleville is hosting their first Discovery Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., encouraging members and new guests to explore their 200 acre nature preserve, which has been called one of Maryland’s most beautiful historic sites.

Tucked away behind a two mile lane lined with arching Osage Orange trees, Mount Harmon is a beautiful oasis overflowing with history and nature. Since many visitors explore the property through their camera lens as it is, tour coordinator Pamela Hamlen came up with the event to offer guests something to look for and guide them around targeted areas of the property to discover places they may not know existed.

Participants will receive a list of attractions and items to find along with game rules and a map of the grounds to provide a self- guided walking tour around the property. Guests will photograph each find and at the end of the event, everyone’s images will be reviewed and the top three finders will win a prize.

“Come and explore how fabulous it is here, because it has so much to offer,” said Hamlen.

This event is free for members and ten dollars for a day pass for non members, which includes access to the grounds and restrooms until 5 p.m.. Advanced registration is required, you can sign up by emailing info@mountharmon.org.

The plantation’s next event will be a guided nature walk focused on figuring out, “who dung it?” by investigating the scat tracks found around the property. Details about becoming a member and upcoming events can be found on their website.

Mount Harmon hopes to encourage families to start making memories here and build a stewardship for the plantation through events like these.

“From the history to the nature programs, there’s always something to learn and see when you come and visit Mount Harmon,” said Hamlen.
