Illinois awarded $430M grant from EPA to reduce climate pollution
CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Illinois $430,251,378 from the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant to fund projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. OPPD Workers Return From Helping Utilities In Iowa/Illinois
The Omaha Public Power District crews that went to Iowa and Illinois to assist with power restoration efforts after damaging storms are returning home to Nebraska. OPPD officials say that 17 employees were dispatched to Iowa and Illinois after thousands of people lost electricity following a derecho earlier this month. Officials say mutual aid is about utilities helping utilities restore power to customers.
Babies “R” Us is making a comeback, with 11 new stores in Illinois
Attention children (and parents) of the 1990s: Babies "R" Us, the beloved retailer you may remember from your younger years will soon return to the Chicago area in a new way. Babies "R" Us, which went out of business in 2018, will soon open 200 stores across the country, each inside of Kohl's Department stores, a press release said.
Police investigate pharmacy break-ins
With at least a half-dozen pharmacy break-ins in recent days around southern Illinois, investigators are looking at bringing in help from the feds to crack the case. On Tuesday of last week, the WellCreek Pharmacy in Bethalto was hit at about 2:30am. They only took drugs – the cash was left alone.
Storm reports: Nine confirmed tornadoes from July 15 derecho
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Severe storms blasted through central Illinois on July 15, bringing widespread damaging wind, heavy rain and tornadoes to the region. Observed thunderstorm winds reached over 100 mph in a few locations, both a result of straight-line winds and tornadoes. Outside of tornadoes, most areas experienced wind gusts 60 to 80 mph which resulted in numerous trees and power lines being damaged across the region.

(SPRINGFIELD) Governor J.B. Pritzker signed 68 more bills into law this past Friday. One of the four measures that take effect January 1st, 2025, is House Bill 5457 prevents professional license denial or disciplinary action against someone based solely on immigration status or an immigration violation. House Bill 5465 allows human trafficking victims, who were children at the time of the crime, to have their juvenile records expunged or sealed of any criminal acts they were forced to take part in while being abused. House Bill 5370 expands the state’s “Move Over Law” requiring drivers to reduce their speed in & around emergency crash scenes. House Bill 5238 requires newly built manufactured homes to have weather radios installed, plus also promotes regular maintenance of safety devices in mobile home communities.
