East Camden, New Jersey – A new mural can now be seen in East Camden, and the art amplifies the history of the community.

Camden County officials unveiled the mural Tuesday, which was designed by a local Camden artist who wanted to highlight historical figures and organizations from East Camden.

The piece is part of an initiative to replace graffiti and vandalism in the area with murals that have meaning.

Camden’s Mayor, Victor Carstarphen, said the mural is just an example of the progress made in the city.

“Camden strong is how do we figure out and take a problem and solve it, and this is what happened today,” said Mayor Carstarphen, “we solved a problem that is now going to be such a bright space.”

Carstarphen said the mural will be an essential part of Camden’s economic growth.
