Locals call it the sports car that won't go away. Some even said on social media that they have been seeing the shiny, lime- green car so often it has become an "eyesore." Now, the state Attorney General's Office is involved to make sure a seemingly endless sweepstakes to win the Chevy Camaro SS finally comes to an end. East Fishkill residents are still confused by the changing terms of the sweepstakes. The Westchester-based company Fuelco indicated on its website that the sweepstakes ended in November 2023, but the Camaro has not moved from its platform outside the Fuelco gas station on Route 376. To be eligible to win the Camaro, entrants must fill out an online form and download the Fuelco mobile app. "Something's not right," Fuelco customer Larry Walsh said Tuesday. "My hunch is, it's just there so people pull in to ask about it and get gas and buy groceries." Residents said the car has been there for several years. "Some folks sent me emails and I got Instagram messages," State Assemblyman AJ Beephan said in a Zoom interview Tuesday with News 12, which prompted him to file a complaint with the AG's office. In a written response to the AG's office and Beephan, Fuelco General Manager Bryan Orser said the November 2023 contest end date "pertained to a Camaro giveaway that happened in one of our Westchester locations," not the giveaway pertaining to the Camaro in East Fishkill. Orser has not responded to messages from News 12 seeking comment. Beephan said that after he filed the complaint, Fuelco changed the contest end date on its website from November 2023 to Sept. 15, 2024, and notified local officials about an upcoming event He was "inviting them to participate in a car giveaway in Hopewell Junction," Beephan said, "I guess they are looking to give away the car now, so that's a positive, I suppose." The sweepstakes for the lime-green Camaro is becoming the subject of a several jokes on social media. Business owner Ray Heikkila shared a series of posts in which he said he won the Camaro but it would not start because it had been sitting in one spot so long. Jokes aside, Heikkila and others want to know whether entries from years ago are still valid. "I heard, now they're claiming that this year's going to be the true end of the sweepstakes," Heikkila said. "Will they follow their word, or maybe pull the rug out at the last minute, and switch that date again?" Beephan said he is does which date Fuelco plans to hold a giveaway event, adding that he was not among those officials who were invited. "
