Change-of-Command for USS Delaware
A change-of-command ceremony was held last week for the USS Delaware pierside at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut. Commander Robert Low turned over command of the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine to Commander Jason Patton, who has served previously on four other submarines. Delaware was commissioned in April of 2020 and has a crew of over 130 personnel and is assigned to Submarine Squadron 12.

Sabrina Ionescu leads short-handed New York Liberty to 82-74 win over Connecticut Sun
NEW YORK (AP) — Sabrina Ionescu scored 30 points and the short-handed New York Liberty beat the Connecticut Sun 82-74 on Tuesday night. It was the last game before the month-long Olympic break for both teams. The game was tied heading into the fourth quarter before Ionescu hit a 3-pointer to start the final period and give New York back the lead it had held for the entire game. That sparked a 10-3 run which gave the Liberty a 73-66 lead midway through the period. Brionna Jones scored 17 points to lead Connecticut. Alyssa Thomas finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Sun.

A number of tri-state area residents reported feeling a shaking or hearing a loud boom Tuesday morning leading to quite the mystery. NASA is estimating a meteor passed through the area between 10 a.m. and noon and would account for people saying they saw a fireball in the sky. NASA said simultaneous military activity in the area may account the shaking or boom residents felt.
UConn Medical School Faculty, Fellows, and Residents Inducted into National Honor Medical Society
UConn School of Medicine has elected its new class of faculty, fellows, and residents into its Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AΩA) chapter. UConn is home to the national Honor Medical Society’s 130th active chapter established in 2019. It is only the second chapter to be established in the state since Yale School of Medicine’s Alpha chapter was founded in 1920.
UConn and Texas agree to home-and-home series starting in 2024
The back-to-back defending champion UConn Huskies have agreed to a non-conference home-and-home series with the Texas Longhorns, an elite matchup between two college basketball powerhouses. The matchups are already set, with the first game taking place December 8, 2024 in Austin while the return game will be almost exactly one year later on December 12, 2025 in Storrs. These two programs met last season in the Saatva Empire Classic at Madison Square Garden, with the Huskies securing an 81-71 victory behind 20 points from Alex Karaban and 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench from Samson Johnson. UConn loves non-conference challenges, having played Kansas, North Carolina, Gonzaga, Alabama, Oregon, Iowa State, and Florida in the past two years alone. Meanwhile, Texas is looking to spruce up the non-con as they transition into the SEC, where they will go from competing against Kansas, Baylor, Iowa State, and Kansas State to now facing Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, and Florida.
