Shelter-in-place lifted after a series of gunshots in East Haven

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — East Haven residents near Charnes Dr. can rest easy this morning after a shelter-in-place order was lifted for gunshots being fired Friday night.

Minutes after 11:30 p.m., the East Haven Public Safety Communications Center dispatched officers to 27 Charnes Dr. after multiple gunshots were fired from a residence.

At the scene, while officers quickly worked to secure a perimeter, the suspect, 42-year-old Michael Farino, proceeded to fire several more shots from the rear of the residence.

A shelter-in-place order was issued to the surrounding area, and the South-Central Regional Swat Team was called to the scene.

An East Haven police sergeant contacted Farino, successfully persuaded him to exit the home, and he was taken into custody without incident. A police officer and his K9 partner were also able to locate Farino’s firearm hidden inside the residence.

Farino is held on $250,000 bond and will appear at the New Haven County Courthouse this Monday. His charges include:

• Reckless endangerment in the first degree
• Unlawful discharge of a firearm
• Criminal possession of a firearm
• Breach of peace in the second degree
• Carrying a firearm while intoxicated

The shelter-in-place order was officially lifted early Saturday morning at 1:15.
