EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLN) – It has been a busy past couple of weeks for recent Michigan State graduate Heath Baldwin after qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics by winning the decathlon at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Between training and attending a send-off at his high school, Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Prep, last week Baldwin is ready to compete for an Olympic medal.

On Monday, Baldwin went through his final practice in East Lansing before competing at the Olympics and said his goal is pretty simple.

“My main goal is just to medal,” Baldwin said. “I think that would be a good accomplishment in my first Olympics.”

Baldwin, who ranks No. 6 in the world for the decathlon, leaves Tuesday for Germany, where he’ll train and stay until July 25. He’ll then head to Paris for the Opening Ceremony on July 26th.

The decathlon competition begins on Aug. 2 and ends on Aug. 3

“I feel like I’m pretty young and if I can get a medal and gain some experience that would be a win,” Baldwin said. “I’ve gone into every meet this year hoping to win. So I mean the main goal is to take my best shot at winning.”
