Philadelphia severe weather: Storms knock down trees, taking power lines, leaving thousands in dark
PHILADELPHIA - Tuesday saw the heat rise to a dangerous level in the middle of a third heat wave, but the heating of the day brought severe weather to the region. Storms began to form late in the afternoon, beginning in the Lehigh Valley and moving south and east, bringing damaging winds, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall.
Drexel University names interim president

In an email sent to faculty and staff by Board of Trustees Chair Richard Greenwalt on Monday, July 17, it was announced that Denis P. O’Brien would be named interim President of Drexel University. President John Fry was announced to be leaving Drexel to become the president of Temple University earlier this month. Fry stated at that time that he would remain at Drexel until a suitable successor could be found.

Herzog and DBK Start Preconstruction on Amtrak’s New Penn Coach Yard Maintenance Facility
PHILADELPHIA – Herzog Contracting Corporation and Dana B. Kenyon Company (DBK) have begun preconstruction on Amtrak’s Penn Coach Yard Heavy Maintenance Facility. In March, RT&S reported that Herzog Contracting Corporation was awarded a contract to design and construct a new Heavy Maintenance Facility in Philadelphia. This contract is for the first of six major maintenance facilities that will help to “modernize maintenance practices and ensure a successful transition from an aging fleet to modern, state-of-the-art trains.” The facility is located near Amtrak’s 30th Street Train Station in Philadelphia. This new facility will service Amtrak’s Acela, Airo, and Northeast Regional Trains that operate on the NEC.
