Temperatures are high but activity has not slowed down in places like Eisenhower Park! Before the sun rose Wednesday, a line of residents were waiting for the doors to open at Eisenhower Park golf course, eager to get the first tee time. For Bob Oehler, it was a matter of safety. "I always come out early because 26 years ago I had melanoma and try to stay away from the sun. I'll play nine holes, bottle of water and a bottle of ice that will hopefully allow me to keep hydrated," the East Norwich resident explained. A few yards away from the course, crews were hard at work taking down the cricket stadium. Workers said they're in the home stretch and right in the heat of the sun. Roberto Smith, of Bay Shore, says it's been a challenging few days but he follows a plan to not suffer heat exhaustion. “Stay hydrated with electrolytes and water. The job is providing it. Ice cold water. If you have to take a break, take a break!,” said Smith. For some Long Islanders, enjoying the outdoor aspects of the park were too much. They opted to use air-conditioned facilities like the ice rink and cool off in the pool. "
